Is an infrared sauna suitable for anybody?

Due to the more controlled temperature and safe heating apparatus, far infrared saunas are beneficial to a wider variety of people. A healthcare professional should be consulted if you are at all concerned or have specific health conditions, including pregnancy. You may be surprised to hear that a SaunaMed sauna could actually benefit you or alleviate the symptoms of your condition.

The elderly and young should use an infrared sauna in moderation. The reason for this is that they are deemed to be more venerable to dehydration and may have medical conditions. If you experience and discomfort when using a SaunaMed sauna stop immediately and contact a healthcare professional before you continue your usage.

Do you use chemicals in your infrared saunas?

There are a number of factors to consider when choosing an infrared sauna, and one of those is the materials with which the infrared sauna is constructed. Many people are looking for an infrared sauna for the health benefits and to detoxify the body. Many of the toxins that enter our bodies are from the air we breathe. Both inside our homes and outside in the city, we are exposed to a multitude of chemicals used in manufacturing and construction, not to mention the exhaust fumes from our cars. It is important to understand what’s used inside of infrared saunas, because at high temperatures certain materials can release chemicals into the air, which is called “off gassing”.

You may be wondering whether we use chemicals in our saunas. Our answer; Absolutely not! Any glue used to bind elements together is non toxic and the cabin wood is free from pesticides. We manufacture all our sauna equipment to the ROHS directive and use no chemicals or toxins in our sauna cabins as this could result in toxic fumes being released during operation. These chemicals could easily be absorbed by your open pores and cause a reaction.

Do I need an electrician for an infrared sauna?

Many sauna manufacturers fail to explain the differences in the electrical requirements of their saunas; and customers can subsequently find that their homes are not equipped for their new purchase. Here at SaunaMed all the infrared saunas across our range run on a standard 240volt (V)/13 amp (A) plug socket.

Therefore an electrician is not required as our saunas simply plug into any household power point, they are delivered to you in kit-form and all wiring and accessories are already in place.

As always you need to make sure that you don’t run too many appliances on the same loop at one time.

One of our stockists has  an excellent blog post on this which you can find here.

Does an infrared Sauna require any ventilation or plumbing?

At SaunaMed we have made sure our sauna cabins are self-venting and require no plumbing. There is a sliding vent to control the exhaust of hot air and the unit stands off the floor on 4 cleverly designed supports so no further venting is required and your floor remains protected.

Not only does this mean less hassle and cost for the end user but it enables ultra portability, you literally have a sauna wherever you desire even a caravan or a motorboat. Not only this but when it comes to moving home you can easily take your sauna with you.

Do your infrared saunas operate silently?

The answer to this question is yes. Silence is an important part of stress busting. An excellent article on the importance of silence by author Dawn James can be found here http://www.deepermeditation.net/stressadviceblog/archives/the-power-of-silence-for-mental-stress-relief-dawn-james.html

The SaunaMed manufacturing process uses components which are all solid state with no moving parts, making the SaunaMed system an extremely robust and reliable one. The added benefit of this is that all our saunas are silent in operation.

In addition to quality and innovation, our commitment to safety is unparalleled in the industry. With strict quality control measures in place you can be assured all of our saunas are electrically certified to meet and surpass stringent safety standards and are regularly inspected by an independent authority.

Many of our certifications are issued by SGS Germany, which is regarded as the premier quality management centre in the world today.

Certifications include CE (EMC, LVD), ISO 9001:2000, ETL, ETS, C-TICK, ROHS, GS, and SAA to name a few…

All the material we use is non-allergenic, non-toxic and environmentally friendly. Our wood comes from renewable forests. Furthermore, SaunaMed units use half the electricity of standard units. Not only does this save energy, but money as well. We also go a step further and ensure that all of our products are manufactured to ROHS standards, which restricts the release of Hazardous Substances.

SaunaMed is one of the only manufacturers of far infrared saunas with certifications from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI).

“Being FSC certified shows that you comply with the highest social and environmental standards on the market. As public concerns about the state of the world’s forests and timber resources increases, FSC provides you with a credible solution to complex environmental and social issues.” http://www.fsc.org/16.html

Not only is your SaunaMed infrared sauna an environmentally friendly product, but our entire process is certified. The FSC and SFI have certified our manufacturing facilities Chain-of-Custody (COC). COC is the path taken by raw materials from an FSC-certified source through processing, manufacturing, distribution, and printing until it is a final product ready for sale to you. So your SaunaMed Infrared Sauna is as environmentally friendly as it can be from the original tree to your final sauna.

Are SaunaMed infrared saunas easy to assemble?

Certainly! This was a major part of our design process. We wanted a product that anyone could enjoy and assemble without difficulty.

As our items are packed flat, they are transported and moved around the home easily. All of our items are easily assembled and include clear simple instructions. Any tools that may be needed to complete the construction of the unit are also included.

Installation should take about thirty minutes. We provide you with an easy to read ‘step by step’ manual. Our saunas arrive flat packed in 2 or 3 large boxes, depending on which model. This also makes it easier to take with you if you ever decide to move house. All wall sections are made to fit together precisely, this ensures that ourinfrared saunas are very rigid and have a solid construction.

Carbon or Ceramic infrared heaters?

Ceramic infrared sauna heaters are more advantageous as they heat up much faster, have a high emissivity and they are known for high levels of durability. Ceramic heaters are the most common and popular choice. Our DuraWave™ ceramic heaters are also very easy to ship and replace should a problem arise, unlike carbon heaters that can be awkward to ship and difficult to replace.

SaunaMed did consider using carbon elements, however after extensive research we chose to stick with our very popular DuraWave™ elements due to the following findings regarding carbon elements;

  • Infrared efficiency dropped dramatically when sitting more than 20cm away from the elements. Meaning much of the infrared heat sources are not warming the body efficiently but simply warming the air.
  • The elements have to be thermostat controlled which meant that cabin temperatures would have to be much higher to produce any level of sweat production.
  • To create the internal temperatures and Infrared flow required for the elements to be effective, the majority of the cabin interior needed to be lined with the elements, which was very dark and unsightly.
  • Toxic chemicals are used in the production of carbon heating elements. Compounds of styrene, lead, iron, aluminium, zinc, boron and barium are introduced into the sauna. We found it absolutely unacceptable to introduce lead, and especially styrene in a therapeutic environment designed for detoxification.
  • Wooden brackets holding heater panels in place created a trap for dust and bacteria and absorbed the infrared heat rather than your body.
  • Sweat stains on the elements were difficult to clean.

How will using an Infrared Sauna benefit my skin?

Infrared Heat penetrates deeply into the layers of skin. Perspiration removes the deep impurities, toxins and dead skin cells. Increased circulation draws your skin’s own natural nutrients to the surface. Together with Infrared heat’s cleansing effect, you will see a noticeable improvement in your skins texture, complexion, tone and elasticity.

Studies concluded that Infrared Heat has been beneficial in the healing of acne, eczema, rashes, psoriasis, burns, lesions and cuts. In addition, open wounds heal more quickly, reducing scarring.
The skin is often referred to as the third kidney because it is believed to be responsible for eliminating up to 30% of the body’s waste.
